Backyard Productions’ youngest producer/director

Darren’s 11-year-old son, Luke, has written, produced and directed his very own fan-film short based on well-loved characters from Nintendo’s games. It was a steep learning curve, although he has produced animated shorts on his computer at home before. He soon learned how a relatively simple scenario can produce unexpected technical difficulties when putting it all together.

The most challenging of these was that some of the characters were green and some were blue, and both had to appear next to each other in the same scenes. Luckily he had a great team to help him, and a moving blue screen was used behind the green characters in front of a static green screen. Having the new studio set-up made it easy to find the additional equipment and get everything to run smoothly. The shoot actually finished earlier than planned.
