Bring Back… Star Wars

October 6, 2008

Justin Lee Collins went on an adventure to bring back the magic of Star Wars. Followed by a film crew, he travels around America and UK, attempting to get interviews with the actors from the Original Trilogy and bring them back together for a reunion.

Bring Back... Star WarsCaroline and I watched it when it was first on Channel 4, about a month ago, and unexpectedly enjoyed it. Justin’s quest was reflective of BYP’s quest across Tunisia, and we could share in much of the excitement.

The insight into how some of the actors looked back on their experience was interesting, and particularly chasing up rumours of how actors got on behind the scenes. Most fascinating was the range of human beings required to act in Star Wars, from the giant Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) to the teenie Warwick Davis (Wicket the ewok), and the contrast between the actors behind the Droid Duo: Kenny Baker (R2D2) and Anthony Daniels (C-3PO).

Some of the interviews made me feel a little sad, that not everyone has fond memories of making Star Wars… unlike The Emperor’s New Clones, which, from what I’ve seen and heard since, has left a bright impression in everybody’s minds. I guess that is the magic of amateur production!

Anyway! Your chance to see the program has come round again!

It is being shown on E4 at 10pm tomorrow (Tuesday) and I urge you not to miss it!

(but, if you do, it’s available online: http://www.channel4.com/video/bring-back-star-wars/catchup.html)

Pity Channel 4 ‘catch up’ doesn’t support Macs. Useless.
