The Drift raises £1000 for charity

April 1, 2015

Daz giving the donation to the RAF Waddington Charities FundThe money raised by The Drift has been donated to the RAF Waddington Charities Fund. Thanks to everyone has taken part in the project, and everyone that has bought DVDs, posters and watched online! Making the movie a success was a huge achievement in itself, but it’s great to see money going to good causes as a result, too.

You can read about it in the Lincolnshire Echo.

Speaking on behalf of the charities committee, Flight Lieutenant Guy Roscoe said: “We are delighted to accept an out of this world £1,000 donation from Squadron Leader Darren Scales and his Movie The Drift.”

Backyard Productions presents The Drift. You can view the trailer here.

Anyone who is familiar with the process of making a film is aware of just how much time, effort and dedication it takes to produce a film the size of The Drift. It would seem that director/producer Darren Scales thrives on the pressure and the expectations of his audience. That’s what makes this project so important. Darren, his team and their audience really have given their best to create a film that at first may have seemed impossible.

Made on a budget of just £5000 and a dedicated team of volunteers, they all managed to produce this extraordinary feature film. It shows that with a strongly built team and a clear mindset on what it is you want to produce, it is possible. No matter how impossible it first appears to be.

Driftcasts. Have you seen them? Here’s a link to them if not. They are well worth a watch if you haven’t seen them already. They really do capture the enthusiasm about the project and it’s nice to see a indie film on this scale documented so well.

Darren stated in an interview with the Lincolnshire Echo “I am so pleased for the 100 cast and crew who gave up their time to make this movie. This award just goes to show that their hard work has been recognised, I could not be more proud.”

So from wooden sets to the premiere, the award winning film really has shown Hollywood that an epic sci-fi can be shot and premiered on a low budget. But this isn’t the end for The Drift – What is next? You’ve seen a very very brief insight into the process of making The Drift but we want to go even further than this and we need your support to take it further. Darren wants to make another film, which will be an off shoot to The Drift, but to do that he and his team needs money. He needs to show investors that this is a project worth investing in, we believe it is, but we need them and you the viewers to believe it too. We’ve already gained so much support from the cast/crew, friends, family and many others, and for that we a truly grateful.

Review of The Drift’s score, by Soundtrack Geek

January 8, 2015

The Soundtrack Geek has reviewed The Drift’s score. And it’s a fantastic review!

Here’s a taste:

It is a very dark affair, dark as space itself. It’s a horror sci-fi so I expected nothing else. Opening Sequence “Darkwave” starts with a deep and dark synth, the dark brass sound is pushing forward and so I’m surprised when a beautiful piano motif starts playing at 0:24. It’s minimalistic and beautiful. When the flute hits at 0:50 I get goosebumps. This is really great stuff, both atmospheric and melodic. Strings starts playing and it’s all good, but where’s the terror? In the middle, around 2:20, the brass is back and it is building up very slowly and it hits some quite heroic strings accompanied by the reverberating piano. This is gorgeous. Love it.
