FILMMAKERS NEEDED! – LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION COMES TO LINCOLN!

Making a Sci-Fi Spectacular on a Shoestring!

After almost 20 years of making spoofs in Lincoln and the UK, Backyard Productions is now embarking on its first original feature length movie — a Sci-Fi Spectacular called THE DRIFT and is looking for filmmakers!

A Sci-Fi action movie set in a deep space in a starship graveyard. With set building almost complete, the family team are looking for local filmmakers to help with the charity production. Anyone over the age of 16 with a firm interest in filmmaking is invited to apply to take part.

“This is an ideal opportunity for anyone who is serious about making movies.” said Darren Scales, Executive Bully of Backyard Productions. “Normally students and enthusiasts can only get involved in small short productions. We are inviting local filmmakers to join a team of almost 100 people shooting on huge sets right on the doorstep of Lincoln!”

The film group Backyard Productions is a voluntary group that raises money for charity during each production. “I think it is a great way of helping everyone. We get volunteers and resources for free; those who help get copies of the film; companies get exposure and worthy causes get a little bit more funding – everybody wins!”

The filmmakers are no stranger to Sci Fi; they have already made two Star Wars Fan films as well as an Indiana Jones spoof. Their exploits were even featured on Channel 4’s Richard and Judy, as well BBC and Sky News.

The filming of the production itself will take place in March 2012, although there will be activities almost every weekend leading up to the main shoot. “The aim is to make sure we are all ready for the big shoot. We have spent over £3000 on this project, so we want to make sure we are well prepared!”.

Filmmakers and Media Students interested in taking part should contact Darren Scales by email drift@bypuk.com. More information is also available at their website www.backyardproductions.co.uk. [Read more]

Thanks and Drift update

November 15, 2011

This is a BIG thank you to all the volunteers who came to the set this weekend, November 12-13. I know some of you travelled a significant distance to be with us and I am really grateful you made the journey!  More importantly, I hope you had fun too!

It was a very hectic weekend with a lot of different things going on: Set building, make up, testing/research/teaching, costume research, plot meetings, helmet building, body suit development, electrical visual effects, set painting, tea drinking… You name it, we were doing it!!!!

Now that most of the sawdust has settled, I have been able to reflect on the 48 hours of madness and seen that we have come a long way – that is all down to you guys, my Drifters!

Matt will be keeping you updated on developments for the next series of meets, please let him know of your availability.  As time progress, we will be introducing more aspects of the production, whereby in January we will be breaking out the camera and lights ready for some film testing!!!!!

In the meantime, be pleased and proud of what you have done so far – everyone makes a difference!

Thanks again and see you soon!
