Drift pre-production update (November 2011)

Here’s a little update from Darren on what is happening with The Drift pre-production.

Set Building

Since the first big set building weekend (14-15 Oct) I have been consolidating all the work and looking at what needs doing next. I am rapidly drawing up a list of set pieces that need building at the next set-build weekend (12-13 Nov)… We will start work on set pieces and walls as well as the second Drift ship…

Make up

Thanks to Abigail, Scott and Thomas, I am starting to get a really great idea about what we will be able to produce in terms of make-up special effects. I am hoping to do some make up testing over the next set building weekend (12-13 Nov). I have also been approached by a few other make-up artists who have been invited that weekend to share ideas notes and skills!

Costumes

After chatting with Boris, the plan is for me to bring a bunch of flying clothing and combats to turn into flight suits, space suits and general Deliverance Crew attire. We will also need to start looking at the Inhabitants’ clothing. Boris had a great idea about them wearing the rags of the old crew, and that there are two varying uniforms from very different ships attached in the drift. I look forward to seeing more of his ideas…

Story

Sue and I have been working on the story and are very excited about the general plot. We now have enough direction to complete the set designs required to tell the story. Work is underway on the script and examining the detail of the action scenes and deaths etc….

Set building weekends

In order for us to be ready to film on time, all the sets MUST be built before the end of the year. Mindful of Christmas festivities, there will be a LOT of set building in November. Set dressing also needs to be mostly completed by this time. The set build weekends are therefore as follows:

• 12-13 Nov – Build, make up, Costumes #1
• 19-20 Nov – Build and dressing
• 26-27 Nov – Build and dressing
• 03-05 Dec – Build and dressing, Costumes #2
• 10-11 Dec – Dressing

During this entire phase we will also be on set every Monday and Thursday 1830-2100hrs. You will need to email me if you want to come up on these evenings. We do not expect you to attend every one, but would be grateful if you can tell me which ones you CAN and CANNOT make. (I still need to book you on the base etc).

2012 schedule – FILMING 3-18 MARCH 2012

The 2012 schedule will be pushed out in November. In summary,

• January – Costumes and Casting
• February – rehearsals, tech and make up
• 3-18 March – FILMING
• 24-25 March – pick-ups
