Bradley Stone unearthed in Jordan

February 28, 2011

Following on from the sensational discovery of a DOOM RAIDERS DVD in HMV, a BYP fan has now dug up another treasure!

“It was definitely him. There he was, glaring down at the open-mouthed fan in one of the most unlikely locations. Dr. Bradley Stone, the rogue archaeological hero from Doom Raiders….”

While in the City of Amman in Jordan, Alex Bonin was quaffing down a burger in a food plaza when he noticed our DOOM RAIDERS POSTER!!! Alex was amazed and delighted at what he saw, he made a return trip just to get a picture to us!

Alex gave us the story…

I was in Amman, Jordan last month, and I went to this big fast food complex with a Burger King, Papa John’s, and Popeye’s, and there were huge movie posters all over the walls. There was one poster I thought you guys should know about!

I was working on a Star Wars fan film back in the day and was a big fan of the first Empire Strikes Backyard. I remembered you guys also made Doom Raiders and I couldn’t believe I was seeing that poster, all these years later, in a fast food restaurant. Really weird! But you guys should probably make a pilgrimage there sometime.

I didn’t have my camera the first time, so I made another trip just to get a photo.

To help anyone else find this rarest of artifacts, here’s a Google Map with our best guess as to where it lay….

A BIG thank you to Alex for this amazing find!

Of course this is just the surface of the encounter, read on to see how it REALLY happened…

It was definitely him. There he was, glaring down at the open-mouthed fan in one of the most unlikely locations. Dr. Bradley Stone, the rogue archaeological hero from Doom Raiders, alongside the supporting cast, including the spine-chilling Nazi colonel, was definitely right there, in a fast food plaza in Jordan.

He wouldn’t have looked out of place in Amman in the 1940s, and you could imagine him sauntering out of the ornate university gates with some artefact in his backpack. As he innocently whistles, he shields his eyes from the bright sunlight as he looks for some refreshment and perhaps a little trouble. But this was in a quiet corner of an unassuming eatery in the 21st century. If there’s anywhere to escape Backyard Productions characters, a burger joint in a middle-eastern capital would be it. Think again!

As our intrepid fan looked for a table where he could tuck into his burger, he was suprised to find Dr. Stone and Miss Eve watching every bite from a Doom Raiders poster on the wall.

From the picture he took, it appears to be part of a film-themed montage. Who knows why they chose an independent film like Doom Raiders? But then maybe with its eastern Mediterranean setting, it wasn’t that far out of place after all.

If you haven’t seen it already, Doom Raiders has also been excavated from DVD shops as well as online.
