LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION COMES TO LINCOLN!

Making a Sci-Fi Spectacular on a Shoestring!

That’s a Wrap! “The Drift” Shoot is complete!

Principal photography on The Drift has now completed with the last shots filmed on 27 March 2012. Whilst the shooting took place over just 12 days, it has been a gruelling 6 weeks with the periods in between dedicated to set moving, dressing, and prep. “This has been our most complex filming project to date.” says Darren Scales, writer, producer and director of the project. “The complexity started with a completely original story and fantastic script by Sue Morris where the action chops and changes from one place to the next — that is a logistical challenge to say the least!”

The 50 strong team of volunteers have tirelessly given their all to make The Drift as good as they can. “Everyone on the team has understood and embraced what Backyard Productions is about — making filmmaking fun. That doesn’t mean that it is easy or always relaxed, but it does mean that pretty much every night after filming, the crew always left with a smile.”

With filming complete, the next stage is post production, starting with cataloging the footage (almost 5000 clips, and over 600GB of data), then editing, sound, and visual effects galore. There is also the documentary to produce. “There is still an enormous way to go. For much of the crew, their work is done, but now the production turns to editing and special effects — no small feat!”

There is no set release date for The Drift although the plan is to work continuously until it is done. “I look at this project not just as a film but a journey. The aim has always to introduce people to filmmaking at the community level; to show that you don’t have to be in Hollywood to make a full-scale Sci-Fi movie. I am hoping that the cast, crew and viewers will continue to keep in touch with the project, engage with it, share it and when it is released enjoy it for more than just the 90 minutes on screen.

“There will also be updates, galleries, teasers and docs produced along the post-production journey in preparation for its eventual release. I want to make The Drift right. I want it to be the best we can make — no rushing, no last minute effects. That will take time, commitment and motivation, but it will be worth the wait!”

PRESS PACK

Images

The following downloadable packs of images can be used without limitation.

Benefits for working with Backyard Productions

  • Great for networking with like minded people that actually MAKE films.
  • Experience of working on a large set.
  • Shooting on Broadcast quality cameras.
  • Working on a feature length production rather than a short.
  • Making a production with a wide target audience suitable for most ages.
  • Access to the entire film and documentary rushes for showreel, and self promotion purposes.

We see our productions as a mutual benefit enterprise — you get to take part in a large production that might not normally be available to you where you can learn a whole new level of movie production: a great asset for any showreel and resume. We get free cast and crew. To that end, we cannot pay travel and accommodation costs — all our money goes into the elements we simply have to pay for: set, kit, insurance, food.

The pay off?

Everyone involved gets a copy of the film and full access to the rushes, documentary and still for their own promotion. We will publicise our work as much as possible, not just at the end, but the through the entire process. Every major project we have undertaken has been featured on both National and local TV, even Japan — just check out our showreel!

Charity

Then of course is the Charity Premiere where we celebrate in style, black tie and all the pomp you want! Better still all the money made on the night goes to great causes! Typically we raise between £2000-£3000.

Why us?

Simply put, we finish what we start and quickly. Typically our films are completed within 18 months of starting, we do not hang about! We have a proven track record of completing a wide range of productions, we may not have much money, but we do make movies!
